The Independent Living Program is a Federal and State funded program designed to provide special help to foster youth who are nearing adulthood and preparing for life on their own. Many of the these young people have led especially difficult lives. To develop the skills and resources they will need to become self-sufficient adults, foster youth need an extra hand.
The primary focus of the Independent Living Program is to enable foster youth to achieve self-sufficiency prior to leaving foster care. This will be done by providing independent living skills assessments, training, services, and a written transitional independent living plan for each participating youth.
