Expanded Subsidized Employment (ESE) helps reduce the costs associated with identifying, hiring and on-boarding employees. ESE reimburses companies up to 100 percent of the wages of a new hire in the first 180 days of employment. Subsidized Employment is a two-tier program that includes expanded work experience and subsidized employment opportunities for eligible participants. The primary goal of the program is to provide an immediate source of income for low-income families. This short-term opportunity may lead to future long-term unsubsidized employment and self-sufficiency.
How to apply? Welfare-to-Work participants have to contact their CalWORKs case worker and request a referral to the expanded subsidized employment program. Participant’s case worker and ESE provider will evaluate participant’s job readiness, experience, and job skills to determine proper placement for expanded subsidized employment
